"Takaya" by Alena Ebeling-Schuld

from CA$48.00

Artist Statement

As an artist and wildlife scientist, my heart was captivated by Takaya for many years. Knowing he was so close to home (literally) always provided me great comfort and joy. While I am still grieving over Takaya’s passing, I also celebrate his life; I poured both of these contrasting emotions into this piece. I will forever be grateful for what Takaya provided me, and so many others: beauty, hope, joy, awe, inspiration, and a reminder that we are all connected.

Artist Bio

Alena Ebeling-Schuld (she/her) is a conservation artist, photographer, and scientist living in beautiful coastal British Columbia, within the unceded territories of the Lkwungen-speaking peoples and the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ Nations. Alena is passionate about the complex interconnectivity that exists within all aspects of our shared world. She is driven through her art and research to find things that connect us all, and use them to

inspire action, bring optimism, and find sustainable solutions that benefit nature AND empower communities.

Alena uses her art (including illustration, mixed media, and photography) as a tool to engage, educate, and inspire the public about conservation stories, struggles, and successes. These activities also help her maintain a level of creativity in her work and stay optimistic in her field!
