Artist Statement
Do wolves feel wonder? Was Takaya a wanderer by choice or chance? His life led us to question many things, including what we really know about wolves. Takaya showed us how incredibly adaptable and resourceful wolves can be, and this piece is inspired by his connections and place within the Thlchess (Discovery Island) ecosystem.
Ultimately our own lack of adaptability in thinking and laws cost Takaya his life. May we all learn from him, to see ourselves as part of a whole, and embrace flexibility as a tool for survival and stewardship.
