Artist Statement
“The wolf, such a fascinating animal. I have admired their beauty and spirit my whole life. I heard about Takaya through Pacific Wild. I didn’t learn about him until after he was shot. I read the story, read about Cheryl and her dedication to him. My heart hurt for her. I looked through his photos, admiring his beauty and amazing colouring. I was inspired to capture the spirit of this magnificent wolf on the canvas. Painting him was a magical experience. I painted three, my first series.”

Rosie Penning is an oil painter who excels in capturing the essence of her subjects. Her work depicts fine and realistic animals and people. She lives and works in Napa, California which is where she rediscovered her love for art. A stay-at-home mother of two, she is taught by her natural instincts and from working with local artist, Michael Fitzpatrick.
