"Spirit of Takaya" by Patti McNab - Original & Prints
Artist Statement
“I first saw the documentary of Takaya in December 2019. I loved it. I was touched deeply when I heard his call and saw the connection that had been forged between Takaya and Cheryl. I have great affinity for those who have reverence for animals and nature. A few months ago, I read of Takaya’s fate and was heartbroken. I wept. I understand there was a time this was acceptable behavior. But then …mindsets/perspectives change – we change …. we see things differently. To kill an animal for sport or just because you can seems insane to me. I saw this opportunity, as a way to shine my light, on this issue and be part of the catalyst, creating awareness and CHANGE. We (collectively) are always evolving and growing and changing. It is a process. A journey. As Maya Angelou said: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." May Takaya's life never be forgotten and his death never be in vain."
Artist Bio
i love color
color to me is an expression of feelings
color has emotion and emits energy
i want each of my paintings to be
free from conforming to reality
i gravitate toward certain colors
and love using texture mediums
i primarily work in acrylic and prefer to work on large canvases, but am constantly experimenting
i am inspired by
music
nature
interior design
fashion
and
anything that touches my soul
i love the sea
over the years i have painted off and on
taken a few classes and workshops
finding my own way
learning to trust in and develop my own style
like anything in life
when you follow your heart
and do what you love
it all falls into place.
