"Takaya by Moonlight" by Cathy Hammond

from CA$48.00

Artist Statement

“This painting that was dedicated to Takaya took a long time to decipher what was going to be added on top of the background pour. Usually I see something in my head after turning the canvas numerous ways pretty quickly, but this time nothing was really jumping out at me. I then stumbled across Cheryl Alexander’s documentary about Takaya the coastal sea wolf. I was hooked on the story, and right then I knew what was going to be added on top of my acrylic pour painting. Takaya, howling on a full moon night on Discovery Island in hopes to be heard by a female wolf who would swim over and join him!”

Artist Bio

Cathy's work is a meditation of colour and texture, a language of landscapes, creatures, and mysticism that invites viewers to experience a sense of awe and wonder. Pouring acrylics on canvas allows Cathy to create unique backgrounds that truly transcends our world. Once dried, she studies the piece patiently waiting for a spark of inspiration and then the transformation begins. From breathtaking landscapes to playful creatures, Cathy draws inspiration from her backyard in Sooke, British Columbia.
